STEM Femmes Brings together Girl Scouts and STEM Professionals
Thanks to the continued support of the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the Fire Museum was able to partner with the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (GSCM). Together, our organizations created STEM Femmes, a fire safety and STEM patch program that allowed Girl Scout Troops to borrow bins containing hours of activities on the subjects of fire safety, chemistry, and electricity. Completing these bins earns girls entry to the museum, including a special STEM Femmes Career Day, which took place on April 15th.
STEM Femmes Career Day featured female speakers from the Baltimore City Fire Department, Exelon, and the Environmental Protection Agency. The speakers (pictured below) told girls about their path into a STEM field before leading them in an activity. Activities included fire science experiments, measuring the clarity of water, and creating LED bracelets (pictured above).
Girl Scouts participating in the bin program will continue to earn free admission to the museum where they'll be able to participate in a scavenger hunt to earn additional patches. The Fire Museum is thrilled to partner with GSCM to bring fire safety and STEM programs to girls across central Maryland.
Girl Scouts that complete all aspects of STEM Femmes get these awesome patches.
For information on how to participate you can contact GSCM STEM Specialist Stephanie Alphee or Fire Museum Education Director William Roulett.
